VTO Opportunities and Updates

CCBers' service projects assist others in the community: Happy Bottoms, The Whole Person, CCVI Trolley Run

Hometown Fridays Donation Supports HappyBottoms

HappyBottoms was a designated nonprofit for March's Hometown Fridays. We were able to send $2,242.34 to the organization, which works to alleviate diaper need. In Kansas City, one in three families do not have enough diapers to keep their children clean and dry.

You can find out more about HappyBottoms here.

CCBers Put in a Whole Day for The Whole Person

CCB associates raked, swept, cut, trimmed, mowed, bagged, bundled and cleared weeds as part of their VTO service to The Whole Person on Friday, April 21. They enjoyed beautiful weather as they worked—and they celebrated as a team afterward!

The Whole Person connects people with disabilities to the resources they need by supporting independent choice. By offering a broad range of services, The Whole Person strives to increase the ability of people with disabilities to perform day-to-day activities and reduce their need for support from family members, professional attendants and caregiving services.

CCB Keeps CCVI Trolley Run Running Smoothly

The annual trolley run for the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) returned to the streets of Waldo, Brookside and the Plaza on Sunday, April 30—and CCBers were on hand to participate and to volunteer!

The USATF-certified 4-mile race is one of Kansas City's oldest and largest road races. The idea for the CCVI race came from Michael Forbes Restaurants, which owned two restaurants that were four miles apart in the heart of Kansas City. Because the course follows the old streetcar/trolley tracks, it was dubbed the Trolley Run. The 2023 run marked the 35th anniversary of the event.

The CCVI Trolley Run is the largest annual fundraiser for the Children's Center for the Visually Impaired. CCVI's mission is to prepare children with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities, to reach their highest potential in the sighted world. This year's race raised more than $300,000.
