A Message From Roy:

When did your career in banking begin? | I graduated from law school and was working with a tax law firm, but was not finding the work very fulfilling. Looking for a change, I visited my two uncles here in Kansas City for advice. One was a lawyer and the other a banker. They both thought that trust work would be a good fit for me. Several interviews followed and I went to work for Commerce Trust Company, first in their training program and then in their corporate trust department. My boss there left for Centerre Trust Company (which became Boatmen’s, then NationsBank, then Bank of America) and I soon followed. I joined their personal trust department and I have stayed in the personal trust field ever since.
What are your next adventures? | For next adventures I have some thoughts, but the first thing I will do, the one at the top of the list, is visit my daughters on the east coast. One is in Boston and one is in New York. I have not seen them since the holidays at the end of 2019. There were a couple of planned visits that fell through because of COVID, and in any normal year I would have seen them several times.
What advice do you have for CCB associates? | The British have a saying, “Keep Calm and Carry On.” I’ve always found it best to stay composed when others panic or lose their temper.
