Fair Lending/CRA Officer

What is your role at Country Club Bank?

As the Fair Lending/CRA Officer for Country Club Bank, I work with all areas of the bank as a partner and resource to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. I also work collaboratively with management to manage risk through data analysis and reporting, advise and implement regulatory changes, and train staff, as needed, on the fair lending laws and regulations.

Why is this role important for the bank?

Although there are many laws and regulations to adhere to in banking, the fair lending laws are often mutually reinforced with penalties that can limit or hinder bank growth, impact profitability and cause reputational damage.

The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) is one of the fair lending laws, and it is intended to encourage financial institutions to help meet the credit needs (including deposits and loans) in the communities in which they operate consistent with safe and sound banking practices. Bank products, services, marketing, policies and processes, and customer service must be offered and applied consistently and fairly to everyone.

How did you get into this area of banking?

After working as a loan administrator and loan operations officer, I wanted to learn more. So, I decided to check out a compliance role in my bank performing data collection and analysis for CRA, Regulation B and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. I attended an Alliance for Economic Inclusion meeting as part of my CRA training. I didn’t know what to expect going into the meeting, but I was hooked! I didn’t know this side of banking existed until then, and I absolutely LOVE it!

What drew you to CCB?

I had worked with several current CCB employees at another bank and had always heard how great the bank is. I reviewed the website when the Fair Lending/CRA Officer position was posted last summer. The foundational values and philanthropic culture information shared on the website really spoke to me. I also reviewed CCB’s CRA Public Disclosure (of course, that is important for compliance people!) and found it proves the information shared on the website isn’t just lip service. I knew then that the bank's values were aligned with mine, the bank would support the work I love doing and the workplace was one I would enjoy being a part of (and I do)!
