Scott Lute: Vice President of Digital Marketing

What do you do at Country Club Bank?
I oversee a range of responsibilities, including external email marketing to clients. These include newsletters, onboarding campaigns for new accounts and email security alerts. I also manage lobby TV slide updates, online brand management (which involves maintaining the accuracy of location listings and monitoring reviews) and our targeted digital advertising platform for the website and mobile banking apps.
Additionally, I collaborate with our long-time (and awesome) website developer, Chris McCutcheon, on content updates and optimizations for our websites.
How did you get into banking?
My first real job was back in 1996 at Guy’s Potato Chips in Liberty, Missouri, where I worked in the foodservice sales department. That experience taught me two important things. One, that sales wasn’t my calling. And two, the difference between a bad company with toxic management (Guy’s at the time) and a good company with positive people. Once you find a good company, don’t leave!
I learned how to use a few graphic design programs at home and began sending out resumes for desktop publishing positions—the predecessors of graphic design roles. One opportunity was at CCB. My wife at the time thought I was a bit crazy for applying without any job experience, but I successfully landed the position. A big thank you to Ashly Hanson and Bill Teiwes for choosing me!
What drew you to CCB?
At first, it was the job opening that caught my attention. Living up north, I hadn’t heard of CCB, which only had around three branches at the time. However, after my interview, I sensed that the people were genuinely kind, and the atmosphere felt welcoming. It felt like home, and it still does after 28 years.
How have you been able to advance your career at CCB?
For about two years, I was the only marketing professional at CCB. However, my growing interest in computers and technology led me to transition into IT for about eight years. By 2007, I found myself missing the creative aspects of marketing, so I returned as the Digital Marketing Manager. From there, I steadily advanced to my current position, thanks to the support of some incredible supervisors and coworkers through the years. I’m also a Certified Digital Marketing Professional through the Digital Marketing Institute (DMI).
CCB has consistently recognized and rewarded hard work and loyalty.
What advice would you give other CCB associates about advancing within the bank?
Be kind! When you show kindness, everything else often falls into place. Stay engaged, continue learning, be adaptable, and demonstrate that you care about your work and the people around you, all while being kind every single day. People tend to remember and help those who treat them with kindness—I certainly do!
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Years ago, I enjoyed playing in various music groups. I played violin through high school and college as well as drums and mandolin in various electric and acoustic bands through the years. One of my bands even won an original song contest on KY-102.
These days I mainly enjoy spending time with my wonderful family: my wife Laura, three kids and a rescue doggy. The kids are nearly all grown up now, so we’re nearing empty nest territory (and looking forward to it). My wife and I recently returned from a vacation to Montana, which has shot to the top of our dream retirement location list.
I also recently received a pizza oven for Father’s Day, and I’m getting pretty good at pumping out the homemade pizzas!

Do you belong to any community or professional organizations? If so, why are you interested in them?
Over the years, I have dedicated time to volunteering with several animal rescue organizations, including Missouri Pitbull Rescue, Wayside Waifs and KC Pet Project. I’ve always loved dogs and have had rescues for as long as I can remember. Our current rescue, Gabby, loves giving us hugs, which is a first for us. She’s a great hugger.
