Space Coast Upbringing Inspires VanDillen's Art

If the BGT Lobby seems a little more inviting lately, it might be the vibes emanating from the works of this quarter’s featured visual artist, Tanya VanDillen.

VanDillen, who was raised in Satellite Beach, Florida, surrounded by water and the aerospace industry along the Space Coast, explores several themes in her work, including the cosmos, the ocean and music. One common element of those themes is they bring people together. Each has the ability to transcend cultural and social boundaries, creating unity.

VanDillen’s intention is to capture the essence of exactly what draws us together, and to recreate that feeling in the viewers of her work. A sense of awe can be very powerful, whether its genesis is the beauty of nature, the cosmos, a great song, or a work of art.

Her work has been featured in several solo and group exhibitions in both Kansas City and Orange, California, where she earned a BFA in studio art from Chapman University. She currently resides in the Kansas City metro area.
